Hale St Bridge traffic delays
On Tuesday 19 May 2009, Lord Mayor Campbell Newman announced that construction of the Hale St Bridge (now Go-Between Bridge) will delay Coronation Drive traffic.
I spoke to David Bratchford from the Stop the Hale St Bridge Alliance and Chairman of Infrastructure Graham Quirk on the issue.
Australian Tamil Protest
In April 2009, the Australian Tamil community protested in Canberra to bring Kevin Rudd’s attention to the conflict in Sri Lanka between the Sri Lankan government and Tamil Tiger group. The protests made national news as a protester was hospitalised after going on hunger strike.
I interviewed Dr Sam Pari, who organised the protest, about what the protesters are hoping to achieve and a little bit of background on the Australian Tamil community.
Anti-bikie legislation
The Queensland State Government announced new laws to outlaw motorbike clubs on August 23, in response to recent inter-club violence.
Some of these laws include preventing members from associating with each other, working in the security industry or owning a liquor licence.
I spoke to Terry Walker from the United Motorcycle Council of Queensland about how these laws will affect motorbike club members.
